“I got into such good shape for the movie, for me — losing 80 pounds — so I was able to do all of those scenes in the ring without sustaining any injuries,” says the affable James, who came to Minneapolis earlier this month to promote the film.

“But two days ago, now that I’m out of shape again, I threw my back out getting into a car. Throw me all over the place in the Octagon and I’m fine but get me to turn my head while I’m getting in a car and I go down.”

A Great Struggle Behind Kevin Weight Loss

Kevin James struggled a lot during his weight loss journey. Controlling yourself from eating unhealthy food when it becomes a habit is not easy.

He went through many ups and downs when he lost weight. Kevin James started weight loss by having low- carb diet and running on a daily basis.

Talking about his training and workout Parson said,

“Kevin wanted to be treated like a fighter, so that’s what we did,” he says. “These guys didn’t care he was a movie star. They went at him. He knocked a guy out!“

And this helped him to lose about 50 pounds in a short time. But this journey of having low- carb diet and workout didn’t go longer.

He again started consuming a poor diet due to which he gained all the lost weight and ended up having 300 pounds. He was in the same position where he was when he started his career in the film industry.

In one of his interviews, he told that one day he checked his weight which turned out to be 290 pounds. That day he realized that it is not good to have this much weight while being a part of the film industry.

He decided to go back to the weight loss journey which helped him to lose about 40 pounds in few months. His film, Here Comes the Boom brings dedication for him in which he played the role of teacher.

“I want to get back in shape, bad. I felt better, my clothes fit me, my mind was clearer. But it’s a very difficult thing to sustain. I was working out all the time when I was getting ready for the movie.”

This teacher did mix martial arts to rescue his school’s arts budget. During the rehearsals for this role, he lost 80 pounds of weight and become an inspiration for his fans. The very next year, he was spotted again with visible weight gain the second time in his weight loss journey, James says.

“It was after we made ‘The Dilemma,’ in Chicago, where I spent the whole time eating like crazy, I did not feel good, so I said, ‘I’m going to get in better shape and let’s kick this project in gear.’ ”

But he maintained this weight up and down significantly and didn’t disappoint fans from his looks in different series.

Kevin James’ workout session basically starts from the point when he started training session for his film “Here Comes the Boom”. The session he used to take for training has turned him from a comedian to a ripped warrior, James says.

“These athletes are all regular people. They’re not animals, But, when they get in the ring, they become different people. So I became fascinated to find out how that happens, what switch they flip when they get in the ring.”

Workout sessions develop enough stamina and strength in James that he went through rings easily and builds muscles. He asked his trainer to give him a session where he was going to have a real fight. And this proved to be a successful workout for him, James says.

“The UFC people knew what a fan I was and how excited I was about this idea, What we had to convince them was that this wouldn’t be cheesy, that this wasn’t a movie where some guy off the street suddenly becomes a champion.

We made sure the script shows my character gradually getting better, going from these, basically, alley fights all the way to the Octagon. It just happens a little faster than it really would.”

Due to the busy schedule of actors, they can’t take out the proper time for a workout. The same was the situation with James he couldn’t find flexible hours to practice workout sessions.

To overcome this situation, he added minor habits in his routine like taking upstairs instead of the elevator, running for one hour around the town. He used the best of available time.

Have a Ball

Boxing is the best workout session that you can practice in your weight loss journey. James used to 15 minutes of pad work and then gradually make an increment of 5 minutes.

Even during the shooting of his film, he used to do a 1-hour boxing workout without breaking a sweat. He practiced pad work, shadow boxing, combination punches, and many more in his boxing routine, James says.

“I’ve been a fan of the sport for 20 years, I became a fan of (champion mixed-martial artist) Bas Rutten and I thought, ‘How great would it be to train with him and get to know him?’ And then that happened, and we really hit it off.”

Diet is the thing that is considered first for losing weight. A healthy diet with all essential minerals and low fat is preferred for weight loss.

Kevin also looked up his diet plan seriously during his weight loss journey. He fit all the greens and vegetables in his diet which helped him a lot in his transformation.

He sticks to this diet plan throughout the shooting of his movie. No doubt his hard work on proper diet and workout sessions paid him later in the shape of success of his movie.
