Hollywood is unforgiving when it comes to a star’s physical appearance. It always has been that way, and sadly, it’s not changing. That’s why even the biggest and well-established stars like Rebel Wilson and Adele felt the need to lose weight.
Yes, these celebs do say that they did for themselves, which is true to some extent- but Hollywood’s appearance police certainly has a say in this too. Today, we talk about another actress the Hollywood ghosted because of her physical appearance.
After a successful and impressive debut in Designing Women, Delta Burke was the next big thing to be in the 80s. However, it didn’t quite happen. She did a few more sitcoms and movies, but then the roles became scarce. So, she made the switch to producing and writing.
What Happened To Delta Burke After Designing Women?
Delta Ramona Leah Burker was born in 1956. She made waves in the TV industry with her incredible work in Designing Women, but after that, things took a turn for the worse. Even while shooting the last season of Designing Women, she started to gain weight. She weighed about 215 pounds when her role ended in 1991.
Soon after, she was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. To make matters worse, the hypoglycemia then turned into Type-2 diabetes. The healthy problems were proving difficult to deal with. She was gaining weight quickly, reaching 220 pounds at one time. And then, depression came knocking.
She was at rock-bottom, but then with the help of her doctors and trainer, she was able to turn it all around. She lost weight, launched her own clothing brand for plus-size women, and started producing as well. Now, she lives a happier and healthier life than ever before.
How Much Weight Did Delta Burke Lose?
Soon after the hypoglycemia diagnosis, she started working on losing weight. With dietary changes and exercise, she was able to lose about 20 pounds. But she quickly gained that back when the hypoglycemia turned into Type-2 diabetes.
So, she had to start her weight loss journey again. This time around, she worked harder and lost over 65 pounds. As of now, she weighs a little over 150 pounds. So, she was not only able to lose weight, but she has been successful in maintaining the weight loss.
How Did Delta Burke Shed 65 Pounds?
It was definitely not with the help of any surgery. She is diabetic, and opting for surgery would have put her life at risk. So, her doctor came in to help. They made a specific diet plan for Delta that would keep diabetes in control and help her shed some weight.
But that wasn’t enough. She needed to go to the gym, but she wouldn’t. So, her doctor jumped in once again. Delta’s doctor made it clear that if she didn’t lose enough weight, she would have to use insulin. And that was all the motivation she needed.
Delta Burke Diet Plan
Losing 65 pounds at her age is not easy at all, so you can guess that her diet plan would not have been easy as well. At first, she removed all sluggish foods from her diet. No more sugar and no more heavy/oily/processed foods.
Then she moved to a Vegan diet, only eating the most nutritious vegetables and drinking fresh vegetable and fruit juices for every meal of the day.
Lastly, to take it up a notch, she moved to a Keto diet. That’s when she started to make real gains in terms of losing weight.
We won’t go into details because everyone knows about the Keto diet. However, her doctor did make a few changes to her Keto meal arrangements to cater to her diabetes.
Delta Burke Workout Routine
Here’s something about the Delta Burke weight loss journey that we don’t know about that much. No one does, because unlike her diet plan, Delta doesn’t talk much about her workouts. All we know is that she has a personal trainer with whom she does regular workouts at the gym. Two exercises that we know of are core strengthing exercises and cardio.
That said, the following are some excellent workouts for a diabetic person:
- Team sports
- Aerobic dance
